The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes: Book Review

The Sherlock Holmes series written by Arthur Conan Doyle follows the cases investigated by the detective Sherlock Holmes. Each case is solved by Holmes amazingly with his friend Dr. Watson.

The author uses simple and comprehensible language. He also provides a detailed sketch of all the characters. But the thrilling part of the story is definitely the investigation conducted by Holmes, in which the brilliant powers of deduction of the detective is revealed.

Doyle is certainly imaginative about the cases and the clues and observations of Holmes will have us filled with astonishment. An advanced knowledge of various subjects like chemistry, biology, physics and simple logical reasoning along with an ability to read people can be seen in Holmes.

One downside of the story is how the character of Sherlock Holmes is built with perfection and no flaws when it comes to solving cases and never has there been a failure, which makes him an exceptionally brilliant mind but also unrelatable for readers. He is given the right mix of knowledge, observational ability and fighting skills to solve every and never has there been an obstacle or stumbling block for him to overcome. The positive change in personality that is seen in most characters after a gruelling experience is never seen in Holmes.

In every case, the culprit is a character that comes into the story at some point and is related to the victim in some way.

In conclusion, the stories of Sherlock Holmes are highly enjoyable due to the way the case unravels and how the workings of the great detective's mind is expressed in simple language will appeal to anyone and the adapted movies and shows are equally enjoyable.
