Murder On the Orient Express: Book Review

Murder on the Orient Express is a crime thriller penned by the esteemed author Agatha Christie. It is a story based on a case investigated by the iconic Hercule Poirot. Poirot is travelling on the Orient Express  when there is an unexpected stoppage. When the train resumes its journey, one of the passengers is found dead. It is up to Poirot to figure out which one of the twelve passengers and corresponding staff committed the murder.
One of the unique aspects of the book is the moral struggle that ensues. As the victim himself was a cold blooded killer on the run, whoever committed the crime might be justified. But due to the nasty incident that happened, Poirot is obliged to investigate.

Attributing to Agatha Christie's signature style, many of the discoveries and events that happen during the investigation cannot be quickly recognized by the readers as clues and we are completely misled as to who might be the murderer. A large part of the book is dedicated to Poirot questioning the suspects and all might seem innocent to the readers. But every single chapter is highly engaging as it is peppered with mild humour and diverse characters.

The highly awaited end reveals Poirot's discoveries and deductions, with the culprit revealed in a giant plot twist that is quite worth it. The end shows us how it all pieces together and how Poirot's brilliant mind worked.

The popular book has now been adapted as a movie. Agatha Christie's 'Murder on the Orient Express' plays with themes like judgement, morals, the gap between right and wrong and how everyone can have a role to play in a story. Highly enjoyable and cunningly plotted, 'Murder on the Orient Express' will have you awe struck with the various discoveries of the beloved Hercule Poirot and the end outcome.
